The Lancer football team improved their overall record to 8-1 on the season, as they defeated the Maranatha Christian Eagles 41-13 on Saturday to earn a victory on homecoming.
The Lancer offense was potent from start to finish, scoring touchdowns on 6 of their first 7 possessions. Quarterback Ryan Sanborn was extremely efficient on the afternoon, completing 10 of 12 passes for 202 yards and 4 touchdowns. Russel Childs was his favorite target, as he caught 5 balls for 78 yards and 2 scores.
The Lancer defense was led by Junior Sam Camposeco, who made 12 tackles in his first game back from injury. Senior Peter Bowden was an anchor on the defensive line as well, making a season high 9 tackles, including 1.5 sacks.
Turnovers would be a deciding factor in the game. Trevor Brokowski made a spectacular interception early in the 2nd quarter that helped the Lancers build their first half lead. Linebacker Ryan Horne was able to secure a fumble recovery late in the 3rd quarter that helped set up the games final score.
The Lancers will wrap up their regular season this week when they travel to take on Escondido Charter on Friday, 10/26 at 7pm. The game will be played at Orange Glen HS. They will also be awaiting to find out their playoff matchup, as CIF will be releasing the brackets sometime on Saturday morning.
