For the 6th consecutive week, the Lancer football team exploded out of the gate and pulled away for a win, as they defeated the San Ysidro Cougars 42-7 to improve their record to 6-0 on the season.
Minutes into the game, quarterback Ryan Sanborn found Jonathan Gordon all alone behind the Cougar defense for a 45 yard touchdown pass. After an Interception by linebacker Noah Schneider, Sam Camposeco found the end zone from 26 yards out to push the lead to 14 points. Sanborn would connect later with Trevor Browkowski for a 14 yard touchdown pass on the following drive to give the Lancers a 21-0 edge after the opening quarter of play.
The Lancer offense continued to hum throughout the rest of the game, as Sanborn would add a rushing touchdown and two more passing touchdowns (to Gordon and freshman Camden McCormick) on the evening. Sanborn finished 9-13 passing with 162 yards and 4 touchdown passes to 3 different receivers. Camposeco led the Lancers on the ground with 92 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Defensively, Sanborn added 13 tackles. Camposeco had 10 tackles of his own and Noah Schneider had 9 tackles to go along with his interception.
The Lancers now enter their bye week, prior to starting Pacific League play. They will play next on Friday, 10/5, when they host Army-Navy Academy at 7pm. It will be the program's senior night, with the ceremony starting at 6:30pm.
