Game Preview - Southwest Raiders at Francis Parker Lancers

The No.11-seed Southwest Raiders look to carry momentum into the quarterfinals as they take on the No.3-seed Francis Parker Lancers.

Southwest won their first playoff game in 29 years upsetting No.6-seed Vincent Memorial, 34-28. It was not only a historical night, but a night of redemption as the Scots beat Southwest, 46-27, in Week 2.

It was the usual suspects for the Raiders. The backfield of Jovan Young and Daniel Carillo sparked the offense. The two underclassmen are gaining quality experience and will be relied on heavily in the quarterfinals. Defensively, Ray Flores continues to be dominant averaging more than 10 tackles per game.

The Raiders will have to bring their ‘A’ game as Francis Parker leads Division V in scoring with 359 points.

Quarterback Ryan Sanborn leads Division V football with 22 passing touchdowns and a 64.3 completion rate. The senior is also second in the division with 1,548 passing yards. What makes it so difficult for defenses is his ability to throw and run. The duel-threat quarterback leads his team and all Division V quarterbacks with 524 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.

Sanborn has built a solid connection with senior Jonathan Gordon who also leads the division in multiple categories. The wide receiver leads the position in receptions (32) and yards (682). He is also tied at the top with 10 receiving touchdowns. The big playmaker also leads the division’s receivers averaging 21 yards per reception.

If you can find a way to slow down the offense, you still have to find a way to score against the stingy defense of the Lancers. Francis Parker has only allowed 76 points on the season and 29 points at home. In seven games, the Lancer defense has only allowed a touchdown or less.

To put it in perspective how dominant the defense has been. The second closest defense in the division on points given up is Mountain Empire allowing 134 points. That’s almost double the amount of points allowed by Francis Parker.

Sam Camposeco leads a talented group of linebackers who have made it nearly impossible to score on.
